These were not the widespread outages that had plunged sectors into chaos weeks ago. This was subtler, more insidious, like a phantom ache in a limb that still functioned. It was a glitch in the symphony, a discordant note that only someone attuned to its rhythm might notice. Elara, with her quiet fascination for the Current’s intricate workings, was undoubtedly one of those people.

She set down her tools, her brow furrowed. The rebels, Kael and his group, had managed to reroute power, to create pockets of independent energy, but the Current, vast and resilient, had always snapped back. This felt different. It felt like the Current was… unwell.
