The whispers started subtly, like the rustling of dry leaves on a windless day. At first, I dismissed them, burying my snout deeper into my textbooks, the familiar scent of aged parchment a welcome shield against the scrutiny. School had always been my sanctuary, a place where my inherent gifts, though overwhelming, were at least acknowledged, even admired. He was, by all accounts, the worst student in our year, his academic reports a testament to his delightful disinterest in anything that didn't involve soaring through the air or outmaneuvering opponents. Yet, he possessed a raw, undeniable talent in every physical discipline, his movements a blur of controlled chaos.
