The air in the training arena crackled, not with the usual sparks of friendly competition, but with a nervous energy that had been building for weeks. I could feel it, a cold dread coiling in my gut, tightening with every measured breath. The whispers, once a low hum, had escalated to sharp, pointed barbs that snagged at my scales. They watched me, their eyes glinting with a mixture of awe and something far more dangerous – suspicion.

It wasn't just the usual envy of a dragonet who seemed to excel at everything. It was deeper, more insidious. They saw my powers bloom, one after another, like a garden of impossible flowers, and they didn't understand. They couldn't. They didn't see the tangled roots of my broken life, the constant shadow that clung to me, whispering lies of worthlessness. School had always been my sanctuary, a place where my gifts were celebrated, not dissected. Now, even that felt like it was crumbling, the foundations of my fragile peace eroding with every scornful glance.

I tried to make myself smaller, to shrink into the background, to become as invisible as the fear that gnawed at me. The more I tried, the more I felt it, a strange resonance within me, a hum of power that was both exhilarating and terrifying. It was as if my very being was a conduit, and the world was pouring through me, a torrent of emotions and possibilities.
