The air in the ancient temple was thick with the scent of dust and forgotten prayers. Melisandra, still reeling from the revelation of her heritage, traced the swirling lines of her dragon tattoo. It pulsed with a warmth that mirrored the distant thrumming in her chest, a constant reminder of the unseen pull that had guided her to this place, to him. Neckron watched her, his gaze a mixture of ancient possessiveness and a subtle, almost imperceptible concern. He understood the weight of her awakening, the raw power coiled within her that was only just beginning to stir.

"This is but the beginning, little mate," he said, his voice a low rumble that vibrated through the stone floor. It was a whistle, wrought from a dragon's claw, ancient and imbued with a power she could already feel humming beneath her fingertips. "This will serve you, should you need to call upon the deeper currents. A reminder of what you are, and what you can become."

Melisandra took it, the cool, smooth surface a stark contrast to the heat of her skin. She felt a connection to it, a resonance that echoed the dragon essence within her. As she held it, a new scent, sharp and metallic, tainted the air. It was a scent that spoke of desperation, of a hunger that gnawed at the edges of the world.
