The air in the Malhotra study was thick with unspoken questions. Mrs. Malhotra, her brow furrowed, smoothed the worn velvet of a photograph album. It was the first tangible clue, the one that had sent ripples of unease through their carefully constructed lives. The image, faded and creased, depicted a much younger Mrs. Malhotra, her arm around a woman whose face was obscured by shadow. Beside her stood a man, his features indistinct, but his presence undeniably familiar.
"I don't understand," Mrs. Malhotra murmured, her voice barely a whisper. "I haven't seen this photo in years. And this woman… I have no memory of her."
Across from her, Mr. Malhotra adjusted his spectacles, his gaze sharp. "There are gaps in our past, my dear. Gaps that are beginning to feel less like forgotten moments and more like deliberate omissions."
