The air in the Malhotra study was thick with unspoken tension, a palpable contrast to the opulent surroundings. Natasha sat across from Mrs. Malhotra, the antique mahogany desk between them feeling like a vast chasm. The photograph, the one that had sparked so many sleepless nights and hushed conversations, lay between them. It was faded, the edges softened by time, but the faces were clear: a younger Mrs. Malhotra, radiant and full of life, holding a baby. And beside her, a man whose features, though unfamiliar, held a certain undeniable resemblance to the woman before Natasha.

"This… this photograph," Natasha began, her voice a fragile whisper, "it was in that old box you asked me to sort. The one from the attic."

Mrs. Malhotra’s gaze softened, a flicker of something akin to sorrow crossing her features. She reached out, her fingers tracing the outline of the baby in the picture. "That was a long time ago, Natasha. A very long time."
