The air in Amina's village, once heavy with the worry of sickness, now carried the sweet scent of ripening mangoes and the cheerful chatter of children at play. It had been months since they had found the map, months since their adventure had begun, and the changes were not just in the rustle of leaves or the flow of water, but deep within the hearts of the people. Chapter Seventeen had ended with the promise of new beginnings, and Chapter Eighteen, they knew, would be about the blossoming of that promise, a healthier, happier tomorrow.
Amina, her eyes bright with understanding, watched as Mama Beatrice carefully measured out a handful of dried groundnuts for her son, little Musa. Musa, who just a season ago had been a pale, listless child, now bounced with the energy of a little gazelle. His cough, a constant, rasping sound that had once echoed through their small homes, was gone, replaced by the clear, ringing laughter of a healthy boy. It was the groundnuts, rich with protein and energy, and the clean water from the well they had helped to dig, that had made the difference.
“Thank you, Mama Beatrice,” Musa’s mother said, her voice filled with gratitude. “He eats these now, and he has strength. The fevers do not come back.”
