The sun beat down, a familiar warmth on Amina’s brow as she traced the faded lines on the tattered map. They had journeyed far from their village, following the whispers of the ancient parchment, each step a blend of excitement and trepidation. Kato, ever the energetic one, kicked a loose stone, his brow furrowed in thought. “I still don’t understand, Amina. This part here,” he pointed to a symbol that looked like a sun trapped within a box, “what could it mean?”
Amina squinted, her mind racing. They were in a small, dusty trading post, the air thick with the scent of drying herbs and roasted maize. The map had led them here, to a place described only as ‘the crossroads of ingenuity.’ They had met many people, learned much, but the true meaning of this particular symbol remained elusive.
Just then, a young woman, no older than themselves, approached, balancing a stack of woven baskets. Her eyes, bright and sharp, met Amina’s. “Lost, are we?” she asked, her voice clear and melodious.
