Justice Under the Wing

A tense standoff ensues. Detective Harding, alerted by a prearranged signal from Thorne, arrives. Henry must use his wits and the evidence to expose Dubois and finally achieve justice for his parents.

The air in the abandoned warehouse hung thick with the scent of dust and decay, a fitting perfume for the final act of a long, agonizing play. Henry’s heart hammered against his ribs, a frantic drummer setting a tempo for the impending storm. Elias Thorne, his face a mask of weary resignation, stood beside him, a silent sentinel. The prearranged signal – a single, sharp whistle, echoing like a startled bird in the cavernous space – had been given mere minutes ago. Now, the heavy metal door at the far end of the warehouse groaned open, admitting a sliver of the pale, indifferent dawn.

Detective Harding’s silhouette filled the doorway, his posture rigid, his skepticism a palpable force. He surveyed the scene, his gaze, sharp and assessing, sweeping over Henry, then Thorne, before settling on the figure who had emerged from the shadows behind him. Seraphina Dubois. Her usual composure was strained, a thin veneer over a coiled tension that Henry could now recognize as fear. She held a small, ornate pistol, its polished surface reflecting the dim light, pointed with unnerving steadiness at Thorne.

"Well, well," Harding's voice, gravelly and tired, cut through the silence. "What have we here? A reunion?"
