Anya, her small frame weaving through the jostling crowds, felt the heat prickle her skin. She clutched the worn leather pouch containing the precious scroll, its secrets a warm weight against her side. Her quest, sparked by the whisper of hope within its ancient pages, had led her to this bustling heart of the city, a place where every transaction was a performance and every shadow held a story.

Her eyes scanned the stalls, searching for Silas, her enigmatic guide. He had promised to meet her near the olive oil merchant, his words as evasive as smoke. But Silas was nowhere to be seen. Instead, a familiar, sharp-eyed woman emerged from behind a mountain of shimmering silks. Lyra. Her smile was as thin and sharp as a newly honed blade.

“Little Anya,” Lyra purred, her voice a silken trap. “Still dreaming of faraway lands, are we?” She gestured to Anya’s pouch. “What treasures do you carry today? Perhaps something that might interest a hardworking merchant?”
