The air within the Crystal Caves hummed with a silent, resonant energy. It wasn't just the light, refracting and dancing off a million facets of pure, crystalline number, that made Pip feel this way. It was something deeper, an echo of pure potential, of infinite possibility. Grump, usually a storm cloud of grumbles and glares, stood beside Pip, his sharp, angular form softened by the ethereal glow. He hadn’t spoken since Pip had uttered the words, "The greatest number isn't one you can hold, Grump. It's the wonder you feel when you find it."
For a long moment, the only sound was the gentle drip, drip, drip of a minuscule number-stream somewhere in the cavern's depths. Grump’s eyes, usually narrowed in suspicion, were wide and unfocused, scanning the dazzling expanse. He reached out a trembling digit, not to grasp, but to trace the shimmering outline of a particularly large, luminous crystal that pulsed with a soft, internal light. It was a perfect sphere, radiating a warmth that seemed to seep into his very core.
“It’s… it’s so much,” Grump finally whispered, his voice rough, unaccustomed to such a soft tone. “I thought… I thought it would be a single, definitive number. The biggest. The one that ended all others. The one that made me… more.”
