A Sister's Cry
Kad hears a familiar voice – Martill! The reunion is fraught with relief and the realization of her ordeal. He sees the strength she's developed in captivity.
The air, thick with the stench of stale blood and desperation, vibrated with a sound that ripped through Kad’s very soul. It was a cry, thin and reedy, yet laced with a power he knew better than his own heartbeat. "Kad!"
He froze, his hand already reaching for the hilt of the rough-forged sword Shershey had pressed into his grip. Leif, perched on his shoulder, let out a soft, chittering sound, a question in its tiny form. Beside him, Shershey’s own eyes widened, her hand tightening on her lasso.
"Martill," Kad breathed, the name a prayer and a curse on his lips. It couldn’t be. After all this, after the endless days of tracking, the skirmishes, the near misses, could it be?
