The wind, a familiar companion, whispered through the narrow alleyways of Veridia, carrying with it the scent of rain and something else… something sharp and electric. It was the scent of a gamble, and I, Kael, was about to place my bet. My heart, a restless bird, beat a frantic rhythm against my ribs. Kai. He was… different. And I, who had learned to trust no one, found myself trusting him with a reckless abandon that both terrified and exhilarated me.
