Chapter 6
Emerald Stream
Leon finally manages to urinate, but the stream is a vibrant, emerald green. It flows powerfully, a strange and unexpected consequence of the witch's magic. He feels a mix of embarrassment and a peculiar sense of wonder at this bizarre, magical outcome.
The morning sun, usually a cheerful harbinger of a new day, felt thin and watery seeping through the curtains of Leon and Jasmin’s shared bedroom. It did little to dispel the lingering chill that clung to the air, a phantom echo of the witch’s malevolent presence. Jasmin, her small face etched with the residue of troubled sleep, stirred beside him. Her breathing was still a little ragged, the ghost of her nightmare clinging to her. Leon, on the other hand, felt a strange, restless energy humming beneath his skin, a feeling that had nothing to do with the lingering fear of the witch and everything to do with the peculiar, insistent pressure building within him.
He’d woken first, the memory of Jasmin’s terrified whimpers still fresh in his mind. He’d nudged her gently, whispering her name, his voice a little rough from disuse. She’d mumbled something about horses and slippery things, her eyes still squeezed shut, lost in the terrifying landscapes of her dreams. Leon felt a pang of protectiveness, a fierce desire to shield her from the shadows that haunted her sleep. But he couldn’t shake the feeling that he was trapped in a shadow of his own, a shadow that was growing larger and more insistent by the minute.
He’d tried to ignore it, the growing need, the uncomfortable tightness. He’d rolled over, burrowed deeper into his pillow, and tried to conjure images of sun-drenched fields and friendly dogs. But the pressure was relentless, a tiny, insistent drumbeat against his bladder. It was a deeply familiar sensation, yet utterly alien in its context. He’d felt it a thousand times before, the simple, biological urge to relieve himself. But now, after the witch’s bizarre enchantment, it felt charged with an unnatural significance. It was the culmination of the witch’s cruel trick, the final, undeniable proof that something had changed.
