I looked at Elara, then back at the Guardian. “Now,” I said, a strange sense of peace settling over me, “we figure out how to truly live here. Or how to make it better.” The Guardian remained silent, but its presence was no longer about judgment or escape. It was about what came next. The path to freedom had closed, but a new path, one I hadn’t even dared to imagine, had just opened.
