With a final glance at the creature, Alex lowered themselves into the opening, ready to face whatever lay hidden in the darkness, and finally, to find the answers they had come so far to seek. The golden light of the clearing seemed to dim slightly as they descended, leaving the creature alone with its watchful vigil.
