…But with each new tactic I identified, with each countermeasure I implemented, the walls of my fear began to recede, replaced by a steely resolve. They could bombard me with sound, with unseen energies, with phantom smells. They could try to isolate me, to drive me mad. But they couldn’t take away my ability to observe, to analyze, to learn. And in that ability, I found a flicker of the resilience that had always been there, buried beneath the layers of terror. The hum was still there, a constant, insidious presence. But now, I was starting to hear the silence between the noises. And in that silence, I was finding my strength.
