…The confrontation had been terrifying, a visceral test of her newfound connection to the shadow realm. But in facing the Whispering Shadow, in refusing to yield, Autumn had found something within herself: a core of resilience, a nascent courage that had been dormant for so long. The whispers were still there, a faint echo at the edge of her hearing, but they no longer held the same power. She had seen the darkness, and she had not been consumed. She had, in fact, begun to understand her place within it. The mystery of who she was was far from solved, but for the first time, Autumn felt a flicker of hope that she could, indeed, be the one to mend the Veil.
