Stacey traced the lines on my palm, her eyes soft with affection. “You’re free, Charlie,” she said, her voice a gentle caress. “You’re finally free.” I looked at her, at the woman who had seen me, loved me, and helped me find my way home to myself. The sun, no longer a judgment, but a warm embrace, dappled the water’s surface. “Yes,” I whispered, the word tasting sweet on my tongue. “I am.” And for the first time, the whisper wasn’t a secret, but a song.
