"I'm not going anywhere." "I know." "I mean it. Whatever comes, we face it together." She leaned into him, her body trembling slightly. "Promise?" "Promise." He kissed her forehead, then took the note and folded it into his pocket. The dread was heavy, pressing down on him, but beneath it there was something else. Something steady. He had a reason to stay. A woman who believed in him. A family that was starting to feel like his. And he would fight like hell to keep it.
