…Nicole laughed, a clear, ringing sound that surprised even herself. “No, Jaron. I don’t think I’ll be lying down anymore. I think I’ve been lying down for too long. And you,” she met his gaze, her eyes no longer filled with doubt but with a fierce, dawning clarity, “you’ve been lying to me for far too long.” She didn’t wait for his response. She turned, the sunflowers held high, and walked towards the door, leaving him there, bathed in the artificial glow of his phone, the carefully cultivated garden of his lies beginning to crumble around him. The petals of their toxic relationship, she knew, were finally starting to fall.
