…He stumbled, his ankle twisting on a gnarled root. A sharp pain shot up his leg, and he cried out, falling to his hands and knees. He looked up, his eyes wide with terror, and saw the lion closing in, its jaws opening, revealing rows of sharp, white teeth. The golden eyes, once so mesmerizing, were now filled with a chilling hunger. The lion was upon him, its shadow engulfing him. Noeh closed his eyes, bracing himself for the inevitable. He whispered a prayer, a final plea to God, his faith, his only solace in his final moments. He felt the hot breath of the beast on his face, heard the low rumble of its growl, and then… stillness.
