…“Leaving so soon, Valentin?” he sneered, his eyes, now visible, glinting with malice. “We were just getting acquainted.” Seajay finally turned her head, her gaze meeting mine. And in those deep, captivating eyes, I saw it. A flicker of triumph, quickly masked by a calculated sorrow. It was a look that spoke volumes, a silent confession of betrayal. The scent of jasmine, heavy and cloying, filled my lungs. It was no longer the scent of love, but the suffocating perfume of a trap sprung. I was left standing there, caught in the crosshairs of a danger I hadn't understood, betrayed by the woman I thought I knew. The sunrise had given way to a chilling, predatory dusk.
