…Suddenly, a gust of wind, impossibly strong for the sealed attic, swept through the room, extinguishing Eleanor’s lamp and plunging them into near darkness. A chilling whisper, not of wind, but of something ancient and mournful, snaked through the air, carrying with it the scent of damp earth and forgotten graves. Thomas, in the sudden gloom, his small form illuminated only by the faint moonlight filtering through the window, turned his head slowly, his eyes fixed on the portrait, and whispered, “He says… the pact is breaking.
