…The notebook rustles in Skylia's bag. One line appears before she closes it: THE TREE IS BLEEDING FASTER. SOMETHING SHIFTED WHEN ALL FOUR OF YOU SPOKE TOGETHER IN THE SAME ROOM. THE DOOR FELT YOU. ALL OF YOU. IT'S REARRANGING. COME QUICKLY. I DON'T KNOW HOW LONG I CAN KEEP WRITING. The bolts slide back. The door opens. October air pours in, cold and sharp and smelling of pine and frozen earth and something underneath both that I've been breathing for forty-eight years without ever getting used to it.
