They were the family of the monster, the parents of the killer, the brother of the rapist. The weight of that knowledge was a burden they would carry for the rest of their lives, a constant, agonizing reminder of the darkness that had taken root in their midst. The wheels had stopped turning, not just for David, but for them. Their lives, once predictable and ordinary, were now irrevocably altered, forever shadowed by the unspeakable acts of the man they had called family.
