…Sonya, still holding the slightly damp squeaky toy, gave it one last, gentle squeeze. It let out a soft, pathetic wheeze. She looked at Drucilla, a question in her eyes. Drucilla, sensing her sister’s unspoken concern, put a hand on her shoulder. “Don’t worry, Sonya,” she said, her voice surprisingly gentle. “Tomorrow, we’ll figure out how to get them back to the pet store. And maybe, just maybe,” she added, a mischievous glint returning to her eyes, “we can convince them to offer a ‘frequent flyer’ discount.”
