…Sonya’s grin widened, a beacon of mischievous understanding. She squeezed Bartholomew again. SQUEAK! The hamsters, a dozen now, a veritable furry brigade, were converging, their beady eyes fixed on the source of the irresistible sound. Drucilla watched, her mind already racing, piecing together the fragments of her previous, failed plans with this new, undeniable element. The squeaky toy was the lure. Her traps were the containment. And Brenda’s leaf blowers… well, they could be useful for something, couldn’t they? Perhaps a very noisy, very dusty, distraction. The hamster apocalypse, it seemed, was about to get a whole lot more interesting.
