When the Moonstone Calls Your Name

…I stood up, brushing dirt off my jeans. The moonstone's voice echoed in my mind: Follow it, Nova. The leaf in my hand pulled gently, like a compass, tilting toward the west. "I guess we go that way," I said. Pip grinned. "Lead the way, keeper." We walked out of the clearing, and the woods closed behind us. Somewhere in the distance, I heard the faint sound of running water—a river of silver, waiting to be found. And for the first time since I'd entered that cave, I felt a flicker of something I'd never felt before. Hope. But also a little bit of fear. Because the leaf was still pulling, and the path ahead was full of shadows. And I had no idea what I would find at the end of it.
