When the Gingerbread Man Ran Away

…“Hop onto my snout!” the fox barked, its voice suddenly sharp and urgent. “It’s the highest point! Quick!” Without a moment’s hesitation, the Gingerbread Man scrambled onto the fox’s snout, his little gingerbread hands gripping the damp fur. He could feel the fox’s breath, warm and expectant. The fox, with a final, triumphant flick of its tail, opened its mouth wide. The Gingerbread Man, for the briefest of moments, felt the warm air rush past him, heard a final, crackling cry of “Run, run, as fast as you can!”, and then… darkness. The world, so full of wonders and dangers, had finally caught up with him.
