Then Leo leaned in and pressed a soft kiss to her forehead. It was brief, but it held a promise. “Now,” he said, pulling back with a grin, “how about a walk in the park? I hear the ducks are very opinionated this time of year.” Jess laughed. “Lead the way.” They walked hand in hand toward the park, the afternoon light casting long shadows behind them. The air was crisp, carrying the scent of fallen leaves and distant woodsmoke. And for the first time in a long time, Jess felt that everything was exactly as it should be.
