…And in her mind, that was the first, crucial step towards theatrical triumph. She smoothed down her skirt, her optimism a defiant banner against the encroaching tide of mediocrity. They would put on this play. They would make Shakespeare proud. Or, at the very least, they would make him bewildered. Either way, it would be an experience. She just hoped it wouldn't be the last one for the arts program. The weight of that thought settled on her shoulders for a fleeting moment, a dark cloud in her otherwise sun-drenched disposition, before she pushed it away with a determined shake of her head. Rehearsals were next. And that, she decided, was where the real magic would happen.
