…The ship sailed on, and Barnaby watched the shore approach, feeling the weight of every choice that had brought him here. The sea had teeth, and he had passed through them. But the Crown's jaws were still open, and he had no idea if he would survive what waited inside. Behind him, unseen, the vortex that had almost claimed them began to pulse again, its green light casting long shadows across the water.
