…As they emerged onto the deck, the sky had shifted again. Storm clouds gathered on the horizon, lit from within by flashes of lightning. The sea was no longer flat but rolling, and the ship groaned as it began to move, driven by a wind that did not touch Barnaby’s skin. The crew had gathered again, their faces turned toward the bow. Among them, for just a moment, Barnaby thought he saw a figure in white, a woman with hair like dark water and eyes that held the weight of unsaid things. But when he blinked, she was gone. And the Voyage of the Sunken Crown sailed on, toward the island where a crown waited, and where the truth of his past would finally rise from the depths.
