…He felt a weight lift from his chest, and with it, a quiet, enduring sadness. He had his answer. He had his redemption. But the cost was a hole in his heart that would never fully heal. He looked at the fisherman. “Thank you,” he said. “I need to get to shore.” The fisherman nodded and offered a hand. Barnaby took it and stood. The sea stretched out before him, blue and endless, full of promise and memory. He tucked the Crown into his coat. It would be his reminder. Not of treasure or power, but of the woman he had loved, the mistakes he had made, and the peace he had finally, after so long, found. The voyage was over. But the journey was just beginning.
