He lay there for a long moment, the silence of the ship a welcome balm to his ravaged senses. He had failed. He had tried to save Violetha, and in doing so, had destroyed it. But he had survived. And as he looked out the viewport at the receding, star-dusted darkness where Violetha had once been, a single, haunting thought echoed in the vast emptiness of his mind: what now? The silence of space offered no answers, only the quiet hum of his ship and the lingering phantom touch of a world he had both resurrected and annihilated.
