And somewhere, beyond the walls, Vespera's army was approaching, and the army was the storm, and the storm was the ending or the beginning, and the girl who had too much magic and not enough sleep was standing in the middle of it, and the standing was the thing, and the thing was the bridge, and the bridge was the work, and the work was not glamorous and it was not easy and it was not the kind of thing that got celebrated at parties, and it was the only thing that had ever, in the entire history of the world, actually, genuinely, for real, changed anything. And outside the walls, the dark was moving.
