…Timmy grinned. “Deal.” Essay nodded, a sense of purpose, however strange, settling over her. This was infinitely more interesting than her usual gig. She watched as Timmy, still clutching the Stones of Fate, took a tentative step forward. He immediately tripped over his own shoelace, but instead of falling, he somersaulted gracefully, landing perfectly on his feet. The good stone pulsed. The bad stone flickered. And Essay, the cosmically clumsy Grim Reaper, felt a flicker of something akin to joy. Her eternal boredom, it seemed, might finally be over.
