…I felt I had nothing left, it seemed, but this notebook, these words, and a desperate, gnawing need to understand how it all unraveled. The fight to save my home, to keep my family tethered together, had been a battle fought against a swamp teeming with alligators, and in the process, I had forgotten to clean the swamp itself. I had been so consumed by the act of trying to help, I had inadvertently caused harm. And now, utterly alone, I had to find a way to navigate these desolate ruins, to see if there was anything left to build upon, or if this was, irrevocably, the end.
