…The house settled, the oppressive atmosphere lifting like a shroud. The faint moonlight seemed to shine a little brighter. Laras slumped against me, her body trembling, tears streaming down her face. I held her close, my own body aching, but my spirit soaring. We had survived. The climax of suffering had passed. But as I looked at the dark, hardened scar on my leg, a chilling realization settled in. The curse was broken, yes. But a part of its darkness, a physical manifestation of its violation, remained. We had won, but the cost was etched into my very flesh, a permanent testament to the ancient evil we had faced. The fight was over, but the scars, I knew, would remain.
