…It was strict. The rules were clear, the expectations high, and the atmosphere one of quiet discipline. He was fifteen now, the year was 2026. His youngest brother, the one who had been a mere toddler when they left Syria, was now six. His other brother was twelve, and his sister, the youngest of them all, was four. The family, their numbers complete, had woven themselves into the fabric of their new Canadian life, a tapestry of shared experiences, of laughter and tears, of struggles and triumphs. The strictness of the school was just another challenge to be met, another hurdle to overcome, another step on the long, winding road of Hatem’s extraordinary life.
