…As they walked home, the setting sun painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, Hatem felt a sense of peace settle over him. He was still Hatem, the boy who had faced so much, but he was also more. He was a brother, a son, a member of a family that was slowly but surely finding its rhythm in this new world. The strictness of the school, the complexities of immigration, the lingering anxieties – they were all part of their story. But so too were the laughter of his siblings, the quiet strength of his parents, and the growing bonds that held them all together. He might not be on the soccer field, but he was on their team, and that, he realized, was a victory in itself.
