The city settled into evening, lights flickering on one by one, and Alex felt something settle inside him too. "Evelyn?" "Mm?" "I think I'm ready." "Ready for what?" "For whatever comes next." She turned to look at him, her face soft in the fading light. "Good. Because I think it's going to be something."
