…Zee tried to speak, to form words, but only a weak groan escaped her. Her vision swam, the world blurring in and out of focus. She felt herself being lifted, cradled by strong hands, the siren’s wail a distant, disorienting sound. As she was placed into the back of the patrol car, her eyes, heavy with pain and exhaustion, scanned the dark alley she’d been dragged from. Nothing. The predator had vanished as quickly as it had appeared, leaving behind only destruction and the chilling certainty that this was far from over. The predator had struck, and Detective Zee was its latest victim. The hunt, however, was far from over. It had just become deeply personal.
