"Steph," she began, her gaze meeting the other woman's, "how… how does he treat you?" Steph looked away, her eyes clouded with a profound sadness. She stirred the contents of a pot on the stove, her movements slow and deliberate. "You just… wait," Steph finally replied, her voice barely audible. "Wait for your day." The words hung in the air, a chilling prophecy that offered no comfort, only the confirmation of their shared nightmare.
