…His face was inches from hers, his breath coming in ragged gasps. His voice, usually a low growl, was now a throaty moan. "Will you be mine?" he whispered, his eyes burning with an intensity that was both horrifying and, in a twisted way, strangely compelling. The world narrowed to the two of them, the wind howling outside a distant echo. Zee’s breath hitched, a single word escaping her lips, a surrender she didn't entirely understand. "Yes," she breathed, her voice barely a whisper, lost in the thrum of his pulse against her ear. "I will be yours."
