…The pink plastic bracelet, still on her wrist, felt like a mockery. A cheap trinket for a life that had lost its value. She closed her eyes, the sounds of the city a distant hum. The thought of another night on the streets, another day of scavenging, another cycle of arrest and release, felt like an insurmountable mountain. For the first time in a long time, the thought of escape, of oblivion, didn't feel like a betrayal of her will to live, but like a release. A quiet surrender to the overwhelming tide. The neon glow of the city lights, usually a symbol of life and possibility, now seemed to pulse with a weary, melancholic rhythm, a fitting soundtrack to her own fading light.
