The numbness was a shield, a desperate, last-ditch effort to protect what little remained of her. But it was also a prison, a silent scream of a soul that had lost its voice. The vibrant colors of life had faded, leaving only the muted tones of a world she no longer recognized, a world she no longer felt a part of. She was a castaway, not just on an island, but within the vast, uncharted territory of her own damaged soul. The sea of despair had risen, and Liz was slowly, irrevocably, sinking beneath its surface.
