…The foster care system, for all its intentions, was a revolving door. Each new placement brought with it a fresh set of anxieties, a new set of faces to decipher, a new set of rules to learn. She learned to adapt, to blend in, to become a chameleon, changing her colors to match her surroundings. But beneath the surface, the yearning for something more, something real, continued to burn. The prison walls had shaped her, but they had also, inadvertently, forged a resilience within her, a tenacity that would carry her through the trials to come. The rose, drawn in secret, was a promise, a whisper of a future that, for now, remained just beyond her reach.
