…I stood there, my knees weak, my breath coming in ragged gasps. Pip let out a sigh, his paper body relaxing, and then he nudged my hand, his charcoal eyes filled with an innocent reassurance. He was safe. And so was I. But the mystery of this place, and of Pip's connection to it, had deepened immeasurably. The forest had called to us, and it had shown us a glimpse of its magic, a magic that was somehow intertwined with the very ink and paper that made up my dearest companion.
